THE LIVING ARCHITECTURE EXPERIENCE

EKH Living Root Bridges

Rangthylliang - Mawkyrnot Root Bridge Trek

Weaved from the roots of giant trees, the living root bridges help the people of Meghalaya’s southern ranges navigate one of the toughest terrains on the planet. This experience allows you to plunge head-first into the state’s famed monsoon mountains as you follow forest and plantation trails with a root bridge architect as your guide.

You will see seven of these marvels apart from enjoying the spectacular scenery and primaeval ambience. Learn about the local history and how the root bridges are made. This form of natural ‘infrastructure’ is not found anywhere else and it requires a lot of knowledge about the surroundings along with tons of patience. Living root bridges grow stronger with the seasons – they are the most perfect example of sustainable engineering. This trek is one for the ages.

The trek begins in Rangthylliang Village and ends in Mawkyrnot Village. Lunch and Basic First Aid is included.
